"Green-up America!" These light bulbs are an easy way to start! April 23, 2008 ! Betty Dravis (San Jose, CA) 28 out of 37 found this review helpful
In preparation for Earth Day 2008, Amazon researched ways they could help "Green-up America." They put their buyers to work, scouting out the best, most economical, energy-saving products available. I'll share the results of their labor with you at the bottom of this review. With this year's "Green" campaign, I decided to get serious and do more than I had already done: All my household appliance are energy-savers, I'm fastidious about picking up litter around my neighborhood and recycling; and am always conscious of our planet. So what else could I do? Suddenly it dawned on me that I'd been meaning to replace all the light bulbs in my home with energy-saving fluorescent bulbs. When fluorescent lighting became available in the small bulb sizes, I was hesitant to use them, thinking they'd flicker and look unnatural like the ones I had in my office years ago. But I tried a few of them last year and was pleasantly surprised to find they don't flicker and the lighting is fine. At that time I thought of putting them all over the house, but procrastinated. ... Well, you know how that is. ... Well, now I'm seriously "Greening," so that's why I purchased these today; it's the easiest, most practical "extra" thing I can do. I ordered these 100-watt bulbs for reading lamps and some of the 60-watts for other areas. And now I feel good about myself because CFLs use approximately 70% less energy than incandescent bulbs and produce the same light output. One CFL bulb lasts from 8,000 to 10,000 hours or up to 10 years. This saves money in energy costs and bulb purchases when compared to regular incandescent bulbs. Following is the information I promised at the beginning of this review: Amazon is offering other "Greening" products, many of them on sale from April 21-23 at 50% price reduction. Today is the last day to save, so visit Amazon's Gold Box and Lighting Deals for "Greening" your home. Work Quite Well August 19, 2007 Al Chartreux (Upper West Side, New York, New York United States) 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
These bulbs basically work as expected. The light is pretty warm and near indistinguishable from that of an incandescent bulb. Like all compact fluorescents, these take a few seconds to "warm up" to maximum brightness, but they turn on instantly. Besides the substantial energy savings and longer lifespan, these bulbs produce much less ambient heat than incandescents, meaning they aren't fighting my air conditioner if I'm trying to cool my apartment, and the metal shade of my bedside lamp stays cool to the touch.
Shipping is a problem March 12, 2008 Eric C. Anderson (Gardnerville, NV) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great product, but shipping is a problem. First set of 4 arrived with one bad bulb. Replacement set arrived with another bad one (so Amazon got 2 bad ones and 2 good ones back - assuming the 2 good ones actually made it back in one piece). I am not so sure that ordering light bulbs to be shipped by UPS or USPS is a workable idea - they really throw this stuff around...
Love this item November 12, 2007 S. Lee (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bought this item once, to check it out and then again because I liked it so much. It fits into a standard light socket. Not sure how long they're going to last, although the box says somewhere between 7 and 10 years, but its good to know that I am doing something to contribute to the health of the environment.
Initial expense, but worth the buy. April 8, 2007 Lori L. Villasenor (Rancho Cucamonga, CA United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
It cost around $250 to replace the lights in my 2000 sq ft house. The light is at least as bright, if not brighter, than the old light bulbs. Here in expesnive Southern California, the savings will be worth it.
