The best deal in the house June 27, 2008 Carolyn Rampone (Plantation, FL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been debating a purchase of Le Creuset for over a year now and try as I might, I just can't spend what amounts to nearly a car payment on a pot. When I saw Lodge now has enamel cookware I felt I would be getting the best as their quality has always been unmatched. Their regular cast iron is indestructible. I ordered the cafe brown (still that 70s girl) and it is gorgeous. It's not a flat brown but gradated and very elegant. The application of the layers of enamel is perfect, no chips or thin areas. The packing was superior with little clips around the base to avoid nicking from the equality well packed lid. These people really know how to "do it right" and Amazon's price on this item is the best, by far. I have an eclectic kitchen, always trying to find the best pieces from each manufacturer. I have Calphalon, All-Clad, and Cuisinart pieces but this is quickly becoming my favorite. I really love it.
NOT Good for the Money....Good Period! May 9, 2008 R. Thomasson (Kansas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have two of the Lodge "Colors" line of dutch ovens (6 quart & 3 Quart)in the "Spice Island" color. In materials and workmanship the Lodge product is every bit as good as their more expensive French cousins. There are no little "pits" or "warts" under the inner coating of enamel. The inner and outer coatings match evenly all the way around the rim of the ovens. The color gradient is exact and uniform across the pieces. The lids fit precisely forming a good seal all the way around. They are a joy to cook with and look great as serving pieces.
Perfect soup and stew vehicle January 7, 2008 Kalo Alexandra (Sacramento, CA United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Very good looking, high performance vessel; nice enough to stay out of the cupboard, which, given its weight, is just as well. If you want to transfer from the stove-top to the oven to the table, this is what you are looking for; and the price is right, too. As others have mentioned, Lodge had its products independently tested for the dreaded Chinese lead enamel and it came back clean. The only caveat I can think of is there are no 'drip bumps' inside the lid, so this may not be the perfect oven if you need even distribution of cooled steam (as in baked beans). Wholehearted recommendation.
Dutch Oven Crazy September 26, 2007 Carol R. Thompson (Bowie, MD USA) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
Love, love, love this cast iron dutch oven. Made three meals in it already and all were delicious. The cast Iron keeps the heat in for those wonderful slow cooking recipes. The enamal coating inside is still brand new looking. Followed all the directions for cooking and cleaning and it holds up beautifully.
Great Dutch Oven November 17, 2007 R. Moore (Austin, TX) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
The first time I used this pot I burned my soup because it got so hot! Like any cast iron pot, it heats up slowly but retains a lot of heat. The enamel makes it very easy to clean and nothing sticks! the size of it makes it perfect for cooking large amounts of stew, soup, or even boiling a whole chicken for stock.
