Accurate, Durable, Convenient, & Small March 3, 2007 S. Potter 175 out of 179 found this review helpful
Love the scale. Tested accuracy, with perfect results, using nickels -- they weigh five grams apiece. Very sensitive so it can weigh small amounts of ingredients. Lent it to a friend to weigh his son's Pinewood Derby car. He dropped the scale down a flight of stairs but the scale lived on. And his son's car won the derby. One complaint: Anything more than just a small bowl or plate set on the scale will block the display making it difficult if not impossible to read. Would be nice if the display faced outward rather than just upward.
Worth DOUBLE the money October 25, 2006 Merkin (Raleigh, NC USA) 102 out of 102 found this review helpful
Excellent scale, even for double the money. The tare feature works like most others, but the three real goodies are: ... the FOUR MINUTE before auto-cutoff. Not like the Taylor scale I had that cut off after one minute of nonuse. It was always cutting off on me before I was finished with it. ... and NO DEFAULT SCALE It's the same as when you last turned it off (if you were using grams, the next time you turn it on it's still in grams, OR ounces at OFF then it's ounces at ON). Tap the button to change g/oz on the fly. ... AND it holds A FULL ELEVEN pounds (5kg). I put a bag of flour on it, set tare, and scoop out until it reads xx-ounces (virtually impossible with a 6# scale). Yeah, I was a chef for many years and more interested in utility over aesthetics in my equipment. I buy flour in 5# or 10# bags now instead of 50# or 100#. I used to have to have several scales -- one for portions and and one for weighing things like yeast and salt, and bigger ones for things like flour and meats. Now 11# is sufficient and this is still accurate enough for yeast and salt. ... Okay, so it's plastic instead of yuppie glass and chrome. It's accurate and well designed -- not heavy, temperamental, or hard to clean. It just works. ... Oh, and it doesn't use strange batteries (regular old AA batteries so you don't go into conniptions when you need replacements)
fantastic scale September 27, 2006 P. Hawkins (Lake Havasu, AZ) 60 out of 62 found this review helpful
When I took the scale out of the box I couldn't believe how small it is.I can stand it up next to dishes, takes up hardly any space and it's readily accessable. Had an old Weight Watchers scale that took up lots of space. I like the fact that I can put any size bowl on it and zero it out and then just get the weight of my food. It measures in 1/8ths too which is nice but not necessary. I absolutely love this scale, worth every penny.
Works great, and has a nice "extra" feature June 19, 2007 Norman Krumpe (Ohio) 40 out of 40 found this review helpful
OK, so it's a kitchen scale. I want it to be easy to use, and it is. I'm very happy with it. However, I'd like to add that this scale has an extra feature that many digital scales lack: The ability to work with negative measurements. Imagine that you have a canister full of flour, and you wish to measure out six ounces: Just set the container on the scale, zero it, and start scooping. When the scale measures -6.0, you know you've got your six ounces. The ability to measure what I've scooped off the scale, in addition to being able to measure what I've added onto the scale...it's just a nice convenience.
Nice little scale January 11, 2007 twinklenuts (CA) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
This scale is a great value: good price, nice looking, dope features, and small enough not to crowd my weird, tiny counters in my weird, tiny kitchen. I use mine to measure ingredients for foreign recipes (where a British Cup isn't the same as an American one, but grams are always grams), and to make homemade toiletries where the resulting chemical reactions require that ingredients are measured. This scale is the bomb because even the odd recipe that is measured in ounces can be tackled without annoying conversions, with just the push of a button! I like this scale and would recommend it to anyone who was in the market for one.
